Best Poker Bonuses | Latest Poker Bonus Offers

Maura Healey

Until now Pennsylvania, California and New York were being tipped as the next US states to pass online gambling legislation. However, Massachusetts has now entered that race after its Attorney General said that daily fantasy sports was a skill game, and should be legally accessible to the state's residents.

For now, the Massachusetts' priorities are guaranteeing a secure DFS landscape for customers, including age and advertising restrictions and a proposed deposit limit of $1,000 per month.

Attorney General Maura Healey urged operators to accept her regulations without waiting for duther legislative approval. Healey has been hailed as a progressive lawmaker and earned priase from the two major players - FanDuel and DraftKings.

Her public statement have offers reasons to cheer for online poker advocates in the state who are hoping to recieve similar support in their mission.

There is much groun still to be covered in the state, but the attitude of Healey has given a lot of hope.

Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) Chairman, Stephen Crosby suggested introduction of a bill that would not just include DFS, but also online poker and a whole range of other games.

This she feels will help speed up the process.

Crosby told Boston Business:

“Would it make sense for the Legislature to try to craft an omnibus regulatory bill for all of these new electronic gaming technologies – because there’s so many of them? If they could craft a bill, which incorporated regulatory priorities, fundamental values, whatever, that could be applied to all of these games – e-sports, [daily fantasy sports], online poker, whatever all the new ones are – maybe then they could give it to some agency to implement, and the agency does the grunt work every six months making it apply to whatever the new technology is.”

It remains to be seen exactly which US state will be the next to offer legal online poker services to its residents, with Massachusetts being dark horse in that race.

Javier Gomez WPTprague

Javier Gomez won WPT Prague's Main Event for €175,000 ($185,110), as he beat a strong field of 256 players. The Spaniard played solid poker for six days at the Corinthia Towers Hotel in the Czech Republic’s capital city.

A prize pool of €730,340 ($773,824) as the event drew a sizeable crowd. With that win, Gomez took his career earnings to $433,352.

Despite being his first tournament title, however, the latest score is only his second highest to date, the biggest being a 5th place finish at the 2015 Malta Main Event for €205,300 ($222,080).

Some of the notable players to earn a return on their investment at the  €3,300 WPT Main Event were Yann Dion in 15th (€10,300), Steve O’Dwyer in 14th (€10,300) and Igor Yaroshevskyy in 12th (€12,500).

With 27 places paid, six players made it to the final table. After a series of eliminations, it was left between Gomez and Pavel Plesuv to fight it out for the coveted title. The former held a 4:1 chip lead over his Russian opponent coming into heads up.

The two were engaged in a four-hour long battle, serving up a battle to remember.

The final hand of the game was played when Plesuv moved all-in preflop holding Qd-10d. Gomez, holding 6c-6s, made the call. The board ran 5c-Kc-9c-4c-Jc, which meant Plesuv had to settle for runner-up finish worth €120,000. Gomez walked away with top prize and 2015 WPT Prague Main Event crown.

1: Javier Gomez €175,000

2: Pavel Plesuv €120,000

Alex Jacob wins top prize of $250k on Jeopardy

Written by

Alex Jacob Jeopardy

Alex Jacob won Tournament of Champions title for a top prize of $250,000 on “Jeopardy”. The former poker pro dominated the opposition through the course of two days to clinch the title.

Commenting on his one-sided win, he said:

“The most challenging aspect was probably just dealing mentally with the high stakes and the knowledge that I could win the tournament if I played well. The one thing I had going for me is that I’ve played for a lot of money on national TV before. The thing that makes ‘Jeopardy’ different than poker, though, is that there’s always another poker tournament, but you only get one Tournament of Champions.”

The 31-year-old first appeared on "Jeopardy" in April. He won six consecutive matches before missed a Final Jeopardy! question. However, Jacob won a cool $149,802 for his solid display. His win was the third biggest of the year, earning him an invitation to Tournament of Champions in his capacity as one of the fifteen biggest money winners of 2015.

After a smooth passage through the early rounds, stiff competition awaited him in the finals in the form of Kerry Greene and Matt Jackson.

Despite the pedigree of the duo, Jacob was too hot to handle in the final. Matt Jackson finished second for $100,000, and Kerry Greene third to take home $50,000.

Speaking about his competition in the final, Jacob said:

“Matt and Kerry are great; both really nice, funny people, and of course, excellent players. I especially was happy for Kerry when she made the finals. She was the returning champion on my first taping day, so she was one of the few players I had met before.”

PokerHeaven.com to shut shop citing regulatory hell

Written by

Poker Heaven Logo

PokerHeaven.com is the latest online poker room to shut shop. The European-facing site will terminate its operations on November 19.

As per PokerHeaven, “all player funds are held in a ring-fenced account and are available for you to withdraw from now until 19th November.”

The Gaming Media Group (GMG) established this online poker site in 2005. They also launched the world’s first ever 24-hour poker TV channel, “The Poker Channel”.

However, PokerHeaven suffered a big blow with the constant changes to European regulation over the years. In 2010, when France and Italy and later Denmark and Spain opted to regulate and ring-fence their online poker markets, the Euro-facing site was in tatters.

As per the new these new European dot-country jurisdictions, licensees were taxed punitively. This made it very hard for players like PokerHeaven to crack the market.

The knockout punch was delivered when the new tax laws came into effect in the UK. The point of consumption tax prohibited operators like PokerHeaven to provide their products to the UK market legally.

Hence the UK government on such operators would levy a greater tax upon them. PokerHeaven did not enter the market, as it could not bear such high costs.

A statement on the company website read as follows:

“After ten years as a trusted European Poker brand that has focused on enhanced player experience and outstanding customer service, due to increased market regulation across Europe and other environmental factors, PokerHeaven.com will close. We would like to thank all our customers over the years for their loyalty to Poker.”

Niall Farrell EPT Malta

Niall Farrell emerged victorious at the 2015 EPT Malta Main Event, beating 651 players through the course of six days to take home a cool €534,330 ($588,592).

Farrell's latest win took his career earnings to $1,905,233. Speaking about his performance, Farrell said:

“It feels incredible. I ran so pure the last two days. When we got to heads-up, I got good cards but there was one big bluff I made which felt like a momentum swinger. Bilic is a really good player. I’ve played a lot online with him. He played really tough.”

With the event attracting a strong field, a prize pool of €3,255,000 was created with 95 placed getting paid. Some of the notable finishes included Dominik Nitsche in 58th (€10,580), Max Silver in 41st (€11,840), Bryn Kenney in 34th (€13,730), Johnny Lodden in 29th (€15,620), Mike McDonald in 27th (€17,840), Shannon Shorr in 22nd (€20,800), and Faraz Jaka in 19th (€23,960). After the final table got underway, Niall Farrell (A-K) eliminated Nabil Cardoso (A-J) in 8th for €62,570, before being dealt A-7 and doing likewise to Sam Greenwood (K-J) in 6th (€125,660).

Eight players made it to the final table and after a series of eliminations, it was left between Farrell and Alen Bilic to fight it out for the top prize. Entering the heads-up battle, both players held a similar amount of chips. However, after 68 hands, the main event had its winner. Bilic (8-2) went all-in on an A-7-6-5-Q board. Farrell with 6-5 made the call, which sealed Bilic's fate and condemned him to a second place finish.

Farrell not only won the EPT main event title but also made history by becoming only the second Scot after David Vamplew to do so.

Final Table Results:

1: Niall Farrell, €534,300

2: Alen Bilic, €440,000

3: Jaroslaw Sikora, €265,840

4: Giulio Spampinato, €203,840

5: Rainer Kempe, €161,340

6: Sam Greenwood, €125,660

7: Daniel Dvoress, €91,550

8: Nabil Cardoso, €62,570
